Born on December 21, 1926, In Mineral Wells, Texas, Patsy was the youngest of four children born to Henry Lee Pat Wood and Jewel (Latham). Her family later moved to Graham Texas, where she attended school and graduated from Graham High School. She eventually moved to CA with her mother. As a young woman she traveled to many exciting places, embracing life's adventures along the way.
A woman of many talents, Patsy was not only a gifted singer, songwriter, and poet but also a skilled painter. She joined an All-Women's golf league and enjoyed bowling and fishing. She also had a deep appreciation for nature and animals, especially birds. She loved to watch them, paint them and learn all about them.
Later in life, Patsy gave her heart to Christ, a decision that would shape the rest of her journey. She was asked, what is your one regret in life? Her response was "I wished I would have given my life to Christ sooner". She eventually returned to Texas, where she met Harvey Barnhart at a high school reunion. The two were married and made their home in Odessa, Tx where Harvey had already lived for many years. Patsy was a devoted member of First Church of God in Odessa. She had unshakable faith and a deep understanding of the Power of the Holy Spirit, which she shared freely with those around her.
Patsy's kindness, humor and wisdom touched many lives. Her legendary texting skills brought encouragement to countless friends and her heart-warming messages will be deeply missed. She had a special gift for making people smile, whether through her jokes, stories or simple acts of kindness.
Patsy lived her life with grace, love, laughter and unwavering faith. She leaves behind cherished memories and a lasting impact on all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of those she loved.
As Pattie's cousin living in Michigan we did not spend a lot of time together but we did get to spend time together when in 1948 my parents went to Oroville, CA, to visit. We both spent a lot of time playing tennis together. After a week we all went to San Francisco for three or four days before we returned to Michigan. On the last night after everyone was in bed Pattie went out and spent the the night on the Barbary Coast nightclubs. If our parents knew they never said anything to us about it!
For many years we kept in touch by phone and face phone. I had planned to fly Pattie to Michigan for a visit. We had planned to trout fish and play golf (she did both). However, covid got in the way and it never came to pass. We kept in touch by phone until just before she passed.
She is now in heaven and some day I will see her again. I am sure they will give me a day pass. She was a good Texas girl and I miss her very, very much. Goodbye Pattie and have a safe trip.
