Priscilla Ann (Lawhorne) Hyson 83, passed away March 29, 2018 at MCH in Odessa. She was born May 15, 1934 to Jack and Priscilla Ann (Spann) Lawhorne in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. After graduating from Hardin Simmons in 1957, she moved to Odessa, Texas to teach school. She taught school 22 years at ECISD. She married the love of her life, Roy V Hyson, on November 29, 1958.
Priscilla is survived by her husband of 59 years, Roy V Hyson whom she met in Odessa and married in Abilene, TX in 1958; two daughters and their husbands, Deanna and Ken Peden of Odessa and Shara and Benny Clemments of Wylie, TX; grandchildren Drew Ken Peden, Alexa Sarah Chapman and Delaine Kay Peden and her nephew Jeffery Jack Lawhorne. She is preceded in death by her mother and father Priscilla and Jack Lawhorne and her brothers Jack Wesley and Clifton Lawhorne.
Priscilla was very active in the community through the Juliet Fine Arts Society 17 years, Globe Theatre Trustee Board 12 years, Odessa Women’s Forum, Odessa Council of Arts and Humanities, Odessa Retired Teachers/School Personnel Association, Odessa Oil City Sam’s Travel Chapter, and Texas Campers on Mission. She was very involved in the school system not only as an Elementary Music Teacher and Classroom teacher, but also as a Booster Clubs and parent association member. More importantly, she enjoyed serving her Lord and Savior through her church, Crescent Park Baptist Church, as Junior Choir Director, Primary Choir Director, Adult choir member, Church vocal soloist and the Crescent Trio, Baptist Women Missionary Union Vice-President, Junior and adult Bible Teacher, church nominating committee and church clerk.
She belonged to the following Odessa organizations: Member of Symphony Chorale, Classroom Teachers Association, Texas State Teachers Association, American Association of University Women, Alpha Delta Kappa Gamma Tau Educators Sorority, UTPB Political Action Committee and Friend of UTPB, Volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels delivery, Juliette Society of Globe Theatre Past President, member of the Globe Theatre Board of Governors, Baptist Mission Service Corp. Volunteer, member of Permian Band Booster, PHS Choir and PHS Sports Booster clubs, and P.T.A. In retirement in addition to her civic and church volunteering, Priscilla and Roy enjoyed traveling and serving with Campers on Mission.
Family Visitation is Sunday Evening, April 1, 2018 from 6-8pm at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home 4635 Oakwood Dr. Odessa, TX. Celebration of Life is at Crescent Park Baptist Church 3002 University Blvd on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 2pm, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Priscilla is greatly missed by all her family and friends. The family would like to thank all family and friends for their love and support.
