

Richard E. Brandes, 86, of Odessa passed away the morning of Thursday, May 29, 2014 at his home.
He was born October 31, 1927 to Emmett and Clara Reed Brandes in Cyclone, PA. He served in the
U.S. Army, before meeting and marrying the love of his life Joyce L. Digel on January 25, 1948.
They were blessed with two daughters. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Odessa.
He worked in the Pennsylvania oil field, before moving to Odessa in 1954. He then became a machinist,
who worked hard and took great pride in the finished product.
He was preceded in death by his parents, youngest daughter Christal, and sister Emma Taylor.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Joyce; daughter Starr McCann and husband Clifton
of Odessa; granddaughters Christal Spangler and husband Steven of Odessa, Shannon Silhan and husband
Randy of Odessa, Sherry Piper and husband Vince of Brownwood; great-grandchildren Trea, Christopher,
Samantha, Landry, Raven and Payton.
The family of Richard Brandes wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to friends for their
prayers and concerns and to Home Hospice for the care and devotion given to our loved one.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 9 am Monday, June 2, 2014 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home Hospice or a charity of your choice.
