Richard was born in Odessa, Texas on December 18, 1957, to the late Francisco Jaquez and Matilda Jaquez. He married the love of his life, Armida Gomez, on January 29, 1976.
Richard was a hard-working man who founded Affordable Movers, a successful and respected moving company still serving the Odessa area today. His famous phrase, “Adventures in moving,” became a legacy all its own.
He enjoyed playing the trumpet and would perform at gigs or simply at home—sometimes using his horn to call his grandchildren in for dinner. His love of music inspired generations: his daughter Amanda (“Black Mamba”) plays the flute, Tasha (“Boney”) sings, and his grandchildren continue his musical legacy through piano, guitar, and song. Jazz echoed throughout his home, shaping the family's shared love of the genre.
He is survived by Armida Gomez Jaquez; his children Roy Gomez Jaquez, Amanda Jaquez Fox, and Tasha Gomez Bone; his bonus daughter Destiny Morgan Braswell; his grandchildren Anjel Rey Jaquez, Mairena Claire Jaquez, Olivia Rose Jaquez, Roy Rojas Jaquez, Natalie Renee Vazquez, Jeremiah Alexander Vazquez, Analiyah Marie Fox, Michael Gerard Fox, and Andree June Gonzales; and his great-grandchildren Atticus Jairus Jaquez, Addilyn Reign Jaquez, and Avianna Reyna Jaquez. He is also survived by his sister Lupe Sanchez and her husband Jimmy Sanchez, his brother Rudy Jaquez, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Francisco Jaquez, mother Matilda Jaquez, his brothers Roy Jaquez and Rene Jaquez, and his niece Cynthia Elgan.
To his family, he was Dad, Grandpa, Popo, Pata, or Honey—but his favorite names were always the grandpa titles. He loved sneaking his grandkids watermelon, peaches, and candy, filling their pockets before sending them home. Some of their fondest memories include picking fruit from his backyard, jumping into leaf piles he raked just for them, and warming up by the fires he built during the cold months.
Richard helped create not just a house but a home—one filled with love, laughter, music, and wide-open doors. His home was the heart of every Christmas and Thanksgiving celebration, remembered with joy by all who entered.
A private family viewing has already taken place, and the family has chosen to honor Richard’s life in a more personal, private way without a public funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for your prayers—and to play a little jazz in your home in honor of Richard.
