Robert Olivas

51, of Odessa, TX, went to be with Our Lord and his loved ones on Saturday,

December 3, 2011.

He was born August 11, 1960 in Odessa, Texas. He lived in Odessa all his life.

He attended Travis Elementary and Ector Jr. High

and High School and was in ROTC. When he was young he played little league

baseball. He also served as an altar boy at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in

Odessa and later completed two Cursillos. The first one was in San Angelo, TX

and the second in Odessa, TX. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for 21

years and enjoyed working on cars, loved music and enjoyed spending time with

his grand kids.

He is preceded in death by his 3 grandchildren, his father Oscar Olivas, his

mother Alma Olivas, Grandmother Vera Lucero, grandfather Jesus Olivas, and

grandmother Consuelo Olivas.

He married his school sweetheart, Mary Dolores Porras, on September 26, 1976.They had three children: Maria Ysabelle Olivas, Robert Olivas, Jr. (Crystal) and Bertha Lee Ann Martinez (Juan).

He leaves behind ten grandchildren: Jesus Olivas

Jerremiah Olivas, Cruz Najar, Jr., Angel Najar, Christian Najar, Gino Najar,

Robert Olivas III, Mary Jane Olivas, Landon Olivas and Alisia Martinez.

He also is survived by his sisters Gracie Olivas, Debbie (Tony) Aguero and brother Peter

(Patricia) Olivas. Mother-in-law, Celia Porras, brothers-in-law Juan (Christina)

Porras, Jesse (Sulema) Porras, Martha (Johnny) Rey, Edward Porras, Armando,

Cecilia Porras, Jerry, Michael (Yvonne) Porras; 25 nieces and nephews; various

aunts , uncles and cousins and many friends.

A Rosary was recited on Tuesday at 7:30 pm at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 pm Today Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Santiago officiating. Burial will follow at Western

Rose Memorial Park located at 4100 N FM 1788 off of 191 East of Odessa.

Pallbearers will be: Juan Marcos Porras, Dominic Olivas, Christopher Aguero, Jonathan

Bowen, Minnie Orona, Billie Sledge, Hector Calderon, Ruben Balderas,

The family wishes to thank the following doctors and their staff: Dr. Casanova,

Dr. K Molinero and Dr. M Edwards. A special thanks to Dr. Kurra, Dr. P. J. Patel, Dr. D. Parks and Dr. Escabido and their wonderful staff for their special care

during our time of need. We would also like to thank Dr. Sawyer for always being

there and ready with his jokes. Thank you to long time nurse and friend, Nicole Preddy, who always went out of her way to help us. In addition, the family thanks the Odessa Kidney Dialysis

Center, Express Nursing and staff.
