

Sandra Faye Shaw, 56 years old, of Odessa passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 at her residence. She was born April 15, 1961 in Odessa, TX to the union of Lester and Beulah Shaw. She attended school in ECISD, graduating from Ector High School in 1979. While in High School, Sandra was a member of the Eagle band, the student council, and the National Honor Society. After graduating from High School, Sandra attended North Texas State University in Denton, Texas where she pledged Delta Sigma Theta and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Pathology. She later received an Associate Degree in Nursing from Odessa College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Texas Tech University and a Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. She was certified in Quality Management and Nursing Administration. Throughout her life, Sandra enjoyed attending church and being a servant for the Lord. Sandra was raised and baptized at St. Matthew Baptist Church. She remained a member of St. Matthew throughout her adult life, serving as an usher and volunteer for the youth department. She served as the Youth Director of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and was a Sunday School Teacher at Mt. Zion Baptist Church all of Odessa. While living in Arlington, she attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Dallas, TX. Sandra worked as a Speech Pathologist with ECISD for six years, she was also a nursing school instructor at Odessa College for a year and a half. Amongst her many other achievements in life, Sandra worked in the critical care unit at Medical Center Hospital, she was the Director of Quality Management at an establishment in Arlington, TX. She was the Director of Nursing at Parks Nursing Home, and was recently the Director of Rehabilitation at Manor Park in Midland, TX. After being the youngest member voted to the Odessa College Board of Trustees, Sandra proceeded to serve for twenty-four years. Over the span of her life, Sandra was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, scholar, leader, mentor, teacher, servant, and friend. Her hearty laugh could be heard where ever she was, and her broad smile was contagious. Sandra was a straight forward, tell like it is person. She was an avid shopper and loved to dress up. Sandra is preceded in death by her grandparents, sister, Francis Sharlin Shaw, her father, Lester P. Shaw Sr., uncles, Charles, George, Fred, McKinley Porter & Howard Shaw, aunts, Minnie Davis & Nora Wiley. Sandra leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Nigel Vincent Shaw, grandson, Isaiah Riel Shaw, her mother, Beulah Shaw, her sister, Paulette Shaw, brother, Lester P. Shaw, Jr, all of Odessa, aunts, Laura Sanders of Houston, Nora White of Los Lunas, NM, Mittie Powell of Waco, Theresa Shaw & Dorothy Scott (Leslie) all of Dallas, W.O. Davis, Darrell Shaw (Donna) all of Waco, Madison Porter (Cheryl), Hamilton Porter all of Houston, Billy Shaw (Lanette) of Giddings, TX, Gorman Alex Shaw (Esta) of Wichita, KS, and a host of other relatives & friends. Sandra will lie in state at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 1:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am. Monday, October 2, 2017 at St. Matthew Baptist Church with Eulogy by Rev. Christopher T. Redden and Rev. W. M. “Bill” Tatum officiating. Interment will follow at Ector County Cemetery, Rosehill Section. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
