She was born to the late R.W. and Verna Umstot at the McClure Clinic in Kermit, Texas. The family moved to Odessa in 1951 and Sherry attended the Odessa schools, graduating from Odessa High School in 1964. Her first job began in high school when she worked at the Holcomb's Variety Store. After graduating, she worked in the dispatch department at the Odessa American newspaper from 1968-1973. She served as a collection teller at the Texas Commerce Bank from 1973-1980. From 1980 to 2003, Sherry started as a personal service cashier and retired from TXU/ONCOR as a distribution records specialist in 2003.
Sherry became a Christian at Second Baptist Church in Odessa and especially enjoyed participating in their outdoor Christmas pageant at the church. She later moved to First Baptist Church in Odessa where she provided sign language services.
Sherry was predeceased by her parents, R.W. and Verna Umstot. She is survived by a brother, Richard Umstot of Lubbock.
No formal ceremony is planned, but if there are any who wish to provide a memorial, your favorite charity or perhaps one of Sherry's favorites, the Billy or Franklin Graham ministries are suggested.
The family wishes to thank these for their contributions to Sherry's life:
Dr. Scotty Ortega for ongoing medical care.
Madison Medical Resort
Interim Hospice care.
And special words of appreciation to three beautiful, faithful, loving, long time
friends of Sherry --Paula Franco, Charlotte Buckles, and Frances Collins.
