

Tom E. Miller, Sr., 96, of Odessa passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of August 3, 2010 at the Hospice House. He has gone to meet his Lord and Savior. He was born October 15, 1913. He is the youngest son of Lena Mae Wilson & Edgar A. Miller of Hazlehurst, Mississippi. After graduating from high school his family members helped with a school bus that he drove plus he worked with parents who were share croppers. December 11, 1933 he married Ollie Lucile Simmons of Kokomo, MS. In 1936 after the birth of Billy Edgar Miller, Tom moved to the Mississippi Delta to work for Shelby Planting Company as a cotton plantation overseer, where his son Tom E. Miller, JR was born. He came to Odessa, TX in 1953 and worked for a family member J.C. Williamson of Williamson Well Service for a year and then took a job as a pumper for Union Oil of California. Tom took his retirement in the fall of 1977, cashed in real estate investments bought a new company car (motor home) to go fishing in St. Petersburg, FL where his daughter Malinda Marie Miller was finishing college. After traveling the US, he returned to Odessa and rented a closed service station at 42nd & Dixie and started up Miller’s Tropical Plants. In the spring of 1984 that developed into Miller’s Corner. He totally retired in 2007 for health reasons.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 42 years, Lucile Miller, sons, Tom E. Miller, Jr., Billy Edgar Miller, and daughter-in-law, Jerri Miller.
He is survived by a daughter, Malinda Miller Hamilton, son-in-law, William McGlothlin Hamilton, (7) grandchildren, (16) great-grandchildren and (1) great-great-grandson, and daughter-in-law, Judith A. Miller Stringer.
Special appreciation to the staff of Odessa Home Hospice and the Hospice House, who took great care of Tom.
Hubbard-Kelly viewing will be from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2010.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. John McLemore officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, TX 79761, or the National Kidney Association.
