Born January 5, 1930, to Verda and Ruby Hopper, Tootie lived a life marked by faith, devotion to family, and service to others. She was baptized in Gilbert Creek in Santos, Texas, and her faith remained a cornerstone of her life. She began attending Kingston Avenue Baptist Church in Odessa in 1960 and remained a faithful member for many years. In 1994, she became a member of Odessa Bible Church under Pastor Bob Thayer, where she continued worshipping and building cherished friendships until her final days.
Tootie retired from Southwestern Bell/AT&T after 33 years of dedicated service, earning numerous achievement awards throughout her career. Her work took her across Texas, beginning in Dallas and eventually bringing her to Midland, where she completed her career.
She was known as an exceptional baker and gifted gardener, sharing her love through homemade cakes, pies, and plants given generously to family, friends, and neighbors. Her kindness and hospitality touched many lives. She was also deeply grateful for the friendship and care of her wonderful neighbors, Betty and Johnny Vuelvas, who brought her lunch every Sunday and lovingly watched over her for many years. After the loss of her husband in 1992, Tootie found renewed fellowship and friendship at Odessa Bible Church, where she formed many treasured relationships, including a special friendship with Pastor Bob.
