

Barbara Pappio Poe, 78, passed away on July 3, 2013. She was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on October 30, 1934, to Joseph and Nell Pappio. Barbara married Joe Edward Poe, on December 22, 1958. Barbara graduated from Classen High School and the St. Anthony School of Nursing in Oklahoma City. She worked as a R.N. in surgery at St. Anthony Hospital, Integris Baptist Medical Center, and Midwest Regional Medical Center. She was also the Compliance Director of Home Care Options, Inc. of Oklahoma City and the Administrator at Edmond Hospice. Barbara accompanied Joe to varied assignments over a 24 year period which included: McConnell AFB, KS; March AFB, CA; Wright-Patterson AFB, OH; Tinker AFB, OK; Clark AFB, Philippines; Lockheed Services AFS, CA; and San Diego, CA. Barbara assisted in many base and community support positions. She was active in the Officers’ Wives’ Club and served in many different roles. Barbara was the Kiowa Tribal Princess in 1951 and 1st runner-up to Miss Indian America in 1956. She enjoyed attending pow wows and hand games. She was a life member of the Oklahoma City Pow Wow Club. Barbara served on the Red Earth Festival Board, chairing the Red Earth parade for over 10 years. Barbara was a Bronze Life Master member of the ACBL. She loved to play duplicate bridge with friends at the Bridge Center of OKC. Barbara is survived by her husband Joe and three children: Susan Ryan and husband, Philip Ryan of Oklahoma City; Joe E. Poe Jr.; and son Jeffrey J. Poe and wife, Katherine of Midwest City. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Molly Ryan, Patrick Ryan, Austin Poe, Kinsley Poe, Taylor Welchel, Kelsey Welchel Clayton Welchel and Andrew Whitaker . Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marjorie Ann Pappio and brother, Joseph A. Pappio Jr. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 7501 E. Reno Ave., Midwest City with burial at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N. Midwest Blvd, Midwest City, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Infant Crisis Services at 4224 N. Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma City, 73105.
