Barbara Jean Severson

Barbara Jean Severson, 75 year-old resident of Midwest City, OK, passed away July 9, 2015. Born July 22, 1939, she was the daughter of Dwight and Elsie (Diffandol) Bartley. Barbara was a former legal secretary. She had been President, Secretary and Treasurer of the National Association of Legal Secretaries (NALS). Barbara was active in her Church (Midwest City First Baptist Church) and was a former member of the Choir. She loved singing with the Heartland Singers; reading the Bible; belonging to a Book Club and was the former Director of the Children’s Music Association for First Graders. Barbara was active in the Foreign Exchange Foundation and had hosted 7 or 8 Foreign Exchange Students over the years and kept in touch with all of them. She loved to travel and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Maurice A. Severson of the home; 1 daughter, Lisa (Brian) Phillips of Del City, OK; 3 step-children, Michael Scott (Dena) Severson of Isabella, OK; Teri Ann (Greg) Phander of MWC, OK; and Lori Severson of MWC, OK; 2 grandchildren, Joshua and Rachel Phillips; 3 step-grandchildren; 1 step-great-granddaughter; 1 brother, Bill and 3 sisters, Joyce, Janet, and Sharon; and a host of other family and friends. A visitation will be held at Bill Eisenhour Northeast, 8805 NE 23rd OKC, OK on Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 3-6 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Midwest City, 705 E. Richenbacher, Midwest City, OK with burial to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City, OK. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Midwest City First Baptist Church Nursery or Sooner Hospice Care.
