Barbara Sue Johnston Vincent passed away on May 10, 2011 after a very short illness. Barbara was born to Roy and Lois Stanfill on April 5, 1940 in Oklahoma City. She graduated from John Marshall High School in 1958 and from Central State University in 1968 with a degree in English. She married Charles Edward Johnston in 1958. As a brave and determined single mom, she moved with her three young sons to Fairfield, CA, where she married David Donald Johnston. Barbara worked hard as an English teacher for thirty-two years. She and David gave support to their three children through Boy Scouts, trips abroad, and college. Upon David’s transfer to Tinker Air Force Base in 1985, she began teaching at Guthrie High School, retiring in 2000. After David’s passing in April 2000, she married Howard Vincent in January 2007.
Together they enjoyed four fabulous years of marriage. They were a graceful couple on the dance floor, being members of both The Registry and The Alliance, where they formed many great friendships. They were members of Memorial Road Church of Christ.
Barbara was always proud of her athletic skills. She and her husband David rode in the Tulsa Free Wheel several times. After David’s death, Barbara continued bike racing, including her annual participation in Wichita Falls’ Hotter-Than-Hell race. She biked as recently as April 2011 in the Red Bud Classic.
Barbara is survived by many dear friends and family members. Her children and step-children include: Charles Stanfill Johnston, spouse Kelly Kirby, Tulsa; John Johnston, spouse Jaylene, Tulsa; David Johnston, spouse Laura, Stewartstown, PA; Scott Vincent, spouse Kama, Oklahoma City; Eric Vincent, San Antonio; and Gina Peterson, spouse Robb, Spokane, WA.
