Bertie Maxine Curtis

Bertie Maxine Curtis, daughter of O.W. (Osby) Crowson and Leona Shrock Crowson, was born December 30, 1927, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She passed away on December 28, 2020, just two days before her 93rd birthday.

She worked as a PBX operator for Lucy Products in Tulsa before moving to Oklahoma City in 1964, where she worked for Cities Service Gas & Oil and Williams Company. She loved her grandchildren deeply and enjoyed spending lots of quality time with them. She also loved animals and lived on a farm for several years with many dogs, cats, and other animals. Prior to moving to a nursing home, she never had fewer than two pets and sometimes had as many as 15. In the latter of her 18 years battling Alzheimer’s disease, she resided at Leisure Village Nursing Home in Tulsa.

Bertie was a beloved mother to Cheryl (Craig) Bowlin, Vicki (Don) Russell, and Dianna Gilcher (deceased) and grandmother to Jacci (Larry) Petersen, Jeramy (Shannon) Bollinger, Chuck Russell, David (Marie) Russell, Linda (Matthew) Wesley, and Jennifer Gilcher Martin. She was a great-grandmother to Mitchell James (deceased), Kaley Petersen, Noah Petersen, Neal Petersen, Joshua Bollinger, Jessica Bollinger, Jake Bollinger, Benjamin Russell, Lexi Russell, Makenna Russell, Caden Russell, BrookLynn Martin, Logan Martin, Abigail Stephens-Martin, Jakob Stewart, and Jaxon Stewart, and a great-great-grandmother to Sky Bollinger.

She is also survived by former husband Leonard Curtis, brothers Herbert McWaters and Freddie Davenport, sister Nettie Christine Carter, sister-in-law and dear friend Katherine Curtis, and a multitude of wonderful nieces and nephews.

Bertie was preceded in death by her daughter Dianna Curtis Gilcher, brother Bobby Crowson, sisters Winnie Mae McWaters White and Jennie Marie Ashe, and her beloved first great-grandson Mitchell (Mitch) Dale James.

A memorial service will occur at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Oklahoma.
