Bettie Lee Steffy, 91, of OKC passed peacefully from this life on April 15, 2018. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Service in OKC and a service celebrating her life will be held at the funeral home at 2pm Friday, April 20. Visitation will be held from 12-8pm on Thursday.
Bettie Lee Dunn was born on Nov. 18, 1926 in Maud, OK to Newt and Bertha (Oakes) Dunn. She grew up in the Wolf/Bowlegs area. Following high school Bettie relocated to OKC where she went to work for the Borden Dairy. In 1946 she married Merle Chafin and a year later gave birth to her daughter Paula. She attended school for her cosmetology license and worked for many years as a beautician.
In the early 1960’s she accepted a position on the production line at Western Electric in OKC where she worked for over 20 years. Bettie made many wonderful friends during her time at Western Electric before retiring in the mid 1980’s. In 1970 she married Ray Steffy and they enjoyed nearly 5 decades of marriage before Ray’s passing earlier this year.
Bettie was an independent and feisty woman who enjoyed doing ceramics and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Knob Hill Baptist Church in OKC and loved taking bus trips with her church. Bettie was a loving mother, proud grandmother, and a loyal friend who will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Merle Chafin and Ray Steffy; Siblings: Charles “Sam” Dunn and Elmo “Sunny” Dunn; a granddaughter Emilee Bauman. She is survived by her daughter Paula Horstkoetter and husband L.D.; stepson Alan Steffy and wife Teresa step-daughter Denise Henry and husband Dale; sister Bobbie June Lesten; grandchildren Rusty Bauman and wife Monica and Shawna Ogden and husband Rodney; great grandchildren: Zack, Jordan, Matt, Haley, Lindsey Jessica, and Justin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
