Betty Lou Dunsworth, 87 of Oklahoma City, went to be with the Lord, her husband and family, April 25th, 2025. Betty was born in Elbert, Texas to the Late Dean Mitchell Sr. & Valta McIntyre, on January 28th, 1938. She attended Portales High School in New Mexico, were she met and married Orvil Lynn Dunsworth, in 1954. Her love for Orvil was immeasurable, always putting him first. She was married to him for almost 70 years before his passing. She moved with him to Oklahoma in 1961 when they were stationed there through the Air Force.
Betty was a loving and amazing mother of seven. She enjoyed humming and singing, even if only to herself. She learned to play the banjo, dobro and fiddle. After her youngest child was in a full day of school, she began working as a school cafeteria manager so that she could be home with her children during the summer. When all her children were out of high school, she attended Oscar Rose college in Midwest City, OK to learn how to do taxes, then worked for H&R Block during tax seasons until she retired. In her retirement years, Betty stayed ready to go at a moment’s notice when her husband would want her to accompany him, wherever he went, they were quite a pair. She enjoyed hunting with Orvil and family no matter the season, squirrel, turkey, deer, elk and even fishing. She could handle a rifle, fishing pole, bow and arrow with the best of them. Betty could whip up a family size meal that no one could turn down, sewed western clothes for her family and others that attended in rodeos, cut our hair and so much more. As an individual, wife, mother and Granny, she truly was a jack of all trades.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents: Dean Mitchell Sr. and Valta McIntyre, Brother Dean Mitchell Jr. & wife Janice, Brother and sister-in-law Cloyce & Shirley Mitchell, Brother- in-law Lawrence Robinson, Daughter and son-in-law: Norma & Theodore Pohlman. She is survived by her Brother Garland Mitchell & wife Pam, Sister Sharon Robinson, Sister Laquita Mitchell, and 6 children: Son Hayden Dunsworth & his wife Debbie, Son Charlie Dunsworth & wife Regina, Daughter Janice & husband Charles, Son Melvin Dunsworth, Son Howard Dunsworth & wife Jackie and Daughter Jo McGraw. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren who lovingly called her Granny, 39 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Betty had a beautiful heart and soul. She was strong, compassionate, caring, giving and loved by so many and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
