Betty Jean Parrington (formerly Hicks) was born October 10, 1926, in Atkins, Arkansas, the fifth of eight children, to Tom Hinkston and Nita May Lewis. She was called to heaven late the night of April 30, 2014. She graduated from Atkins High School and headed to Oklahoma City to live with her married sister, Sue. She always said she was a big city girl born in a small town. She married the love of her life, Thomas Parrington, who preceded her in death in 1998. She was mother to her two daughters and later to Tom’s eight children.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Sue David and Mary Kendrick; and brothers, Emmett, Charlie, Donald, and Steve; leaving her loving brother, Bill Hinkston and wife Mary Jane, of Midwest City, to remember her. The loves of her life besides her family were her dogs of every breed, having as many as seven at one at time. She is survived by her daughters, Faye and husband Gary Dawson, of Oklahoma City, and Jeanne and her husband Boe Fossett, of Kingston, Oklahoma; Mark Parrington and his wife Ethel, of Woodstock, Illinois; Chris and wife Jan, of Wilburton, Oklahoma; Stephen and wife Denise, of San Francisco; Greg and wife Lynn, of Sterling, Virginia; Kevin and wife Yoko of Japan; Claire and husband R.D. Kuhns, of Parker, Colorado; Margret Chaney, of Oklahoma City; and Dr. Ann Parrington-Gotsheld, of Oklahoma City . She is survived by fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to acknowledge the professional and loving care she received at The Lakes care facility the last seven months of her life and the physical therapy team that she thought of as family. Her daughter would like to express sincere thanks to the Heavenly Hospice team of Steve, Mona Lisa, Mindy, Greg, and Shellie that provided the loving care and support that was given in her final days. God bless you all!
At the graveside, a few words will be spoken by her son-in-law, Gary Dawson, with a closing prayer by her grandson-in-law, Ed Willoughby.
