Grandpa Bill was the best. I could talk to him about anything. He gave great advice. He was very patient with me as a young man. I will miss him

I met Bill in 1959 in Perryton, TX .  We were both in the Oil Field and this was a business, but better yet, a lasting personal friendship.  My wife, Bill and Maxine have spent many happy days together.  I guess it really started as more than a business relationship when he and I bought a TaylorCraft BC12D airplane and both got our pilots license.  We paid $1125 for it and sold it for $1150.  Many stories could be told relating to this - some probably better left untold.  He was a Gentleman, Friend, tough golf opponent and a Sooner.  I was a Longhorn but that only created more relations.  The winner of the annual shoot-out customarily called the other collect.  This was when phone calls were not cheap.  I will always cherish the memories I could go on forever.
Our children were friends as well.  We'll miss Bill amd our prayers are with Maxine, Wade, Phillis and all the family.  Good bue Bill - it was a great journey,

I served with Bill on an Elder Board a number of years ago. Bill never had anything but kind words to say about the preacher and staff. He was a man to be emulated.

Bill was such a gentleman--a rarity these days.  I will miss him.

Bill, I remember seeing you first thru a hole in the window shade in our tiny living room, sitting there eating the cookies that I'd made, think Maxine probably told you she made them...She didn't let me meet you till later, I liked you right away.  

You've been such a good ,steady influence on all of us.  I remember the summer of 1966 when I  drove my little Rambler automobile from Okc to Roswell, N. Mexico to visit.  I picked up my Dad in Elmer and had Dale & Lynette, no  air conditioner in August!!!  I had just been driving a few months and had no idea of the problems I might have traveling.  You sent me an oil company credit card in case we had any problems.  I'd never  used a credit card and certainly didn't use that one but JUST in case, we had it.  I mailed it back to you when we got home,  I sure do thank you for looking after us.

I still think you looked like Clark Gable the year you grew a mustache !! You really grinned when I told you that.  Maxine, you had a great fellow for 61 years.                         Dorthy

I will always remember Bill as Frank.  Of course he knew me as Dale instead of Ronnie.  Regardless of which name I used, he was always my role model and I always looked up to him.

Here’s a story I would like to share.  I'm not exactly sure how much is true anymore or how much I've made up over the years of telling it.

After my sophomore year at Oklahoma State I sent my resume to Uncle Frank to try to get a job in oilfield.  Frank was a big shot at Sun Oil so I was sure he could get me a job.  When I got the letter back from Frank I was more than a little surprised about what I saw.  Instead of an offer to get rich working in the oilfield, there was a little note attached to my original letter.  It said in very few words, “take an English course this summer and learn how to write”.  Bill.  Turns out he gave my letter I had so carefully crafted to his secretary and had her correct it in red ink.  It looked like someone had spilled a bottle of red ink on it.  Turns out he was correct.  I took an English course the next semester and found out how much work I needed.  Like many engineers, I could solve almost any problem, but I couldn’t write a complete sentence.

I’ll never know how he put up with Wade, Phylis and I in the back seat of a sedan while we drove from Oklahoma to California playing my new cassette player with two tapes – Credence Clearwater was one of them.  No IPOD, no TV, no cell phone, just about 1,500 miles of open road.  I don’t remember one cross word, as a matter of fact, I’m not sure he said anything to the three of us for 1,500 miles.

Bill Brawley was 9 years old when I was born.  He had a little dog named "Jigger" who slept under his bed at night and was definitely a one person dog.  When he was about 15 years old he managed to buy a trumpet but the only song he could play really well was "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" which we heard over and over plus a few others he was trying to learn. One year, he spent the summer in Oklahoma staying with his sister's family and worked all summer in the Oklahoma Wheat Harvest where he made quite alot of $$, then spent it all on some cowboy boots and some other luxury items.  I remember my mother, his sister, being quite mad about that!!! 

I am sure his mother and grandmother are very happy that he has now joined them as they were always very fond of him and always had their handkerchiefs out ready to burst into tears when he decided to join the Army and go away from home.......just mention his name and it was always "poor Billy Frank" and the handkerchiefs would come out.  Of course, my brother and I would then make sure we mentioned his name to watch all of this.  I think my mother was happy he was going to get away from home and make something out of himself which he did! Maxine never let him down and always worked the long years he was in college.  

These are only a few memories I have of Bill Brawley and hope they bring a smile to the sadness in all of this. 

Life is only a journey and Bill Brawley seemed to be able to overcome any obstacles along the way and keep going which shows his strength of character.
