William Howell Hancock died on August 27, 2023. His wife of 55 years, Linda, and son, William Trent, were by his side. Bill was born on January 5, 1942, in Rome, Georgia. He was the oldest of four boys to his parents, William Horace Hancock and Charlotte Peacock Hancock. Bill and his younger brothers, Bob, John, and Don, raised all kinds of hell growing up, largely in Houston, Texas. Bill and Linda met young, married in 1968, and moved to Oklahoma City to begin their lives together. Trent was born in 1974, completing their family unit. Most of Bill’s professional life was in health care, retiring from Community Care in 2016. More than work, Bill loved his family and his hobbies.
His hobbies were passions: racing cars, restoring cars, flying planes, fly fishing, coaching baseball, playing golf, and taking care of his horse, Boogie. He loved quietly and laughed loudly. As a husband and father his love was dependable, stable, and selfless. Bill’s love and care extended beyond Trent and Linda to Trent’s wife, Emily Pomeroy, and his grandchildren, Simone and William Hancock. As their Papa, sometimes Pops to Will, Bill effortlessly shared his laughter, his hobbies, his natural ability to teach, his curiosity with Simone and Will. He is forever loved, and we will miss him. In lieu of flowers, please give an extra hug to the people you love and laugh loudly with them.
A Celebration of Life will take place from 4:30 – 6:30 pm, Monday, September 11, 2023 at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper in the Reception Room 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK 73116.
