April 23, 1944 – July 24, 2025
Brooke Dawson Phillips, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born on April 23, 1944, in Oklahoma City to L. Ray and LaRue Dawson, Brooke was full of life, energy, and an unshakable spirit from the very beginning. Her childhood took her to Birmingham MI and Houston TX before her family returned to Oklahoma City, where she would put down deep and lasting roots.
Brooke graduated from Casady High School in 1962 and went on to earn her associate’s degree from Pine Manor College in 1964. She met the love of her life, T. Ray Phillips, III, who served as her escort at the Bachelors Club Ball. It was the start of a grand adventure that would include a beautiful marriage of 41 years, three children, and decades of joy-filled memories crappie and fly fishing, bird hunting, snow and water skiing, dancing, and laughing with dear friends at Lake Tenkiller and Grand Lake OK, Crested Butte CO, Vermejo Park NM, Firehole Ranch MT, 4UR in CO, and beyond.
A true Oklahoma City original, Brooke helped co-found the North OKC Soccer Complex. She coached countless youth teams—Powder Puffs, Red Hots, Little Rascals, The All-Stars, and Casady t-ball and softball—rarely missing a game and never hesitating to coach from the stands when needed.
A gifted card player, Brooke was a formidable presence at any bridge table or mahjong game. She was an active member of the Oklahoma City Ladies Golf Club and a proud member of the Junior League of Oklahoma City. She also gave her time generously to the Casady School community.
An athlete at heart, Brooke was a graceful water skier and fearless on snow and a dead eye with a shotgun. She also raised and showed champion Cocker Spaniels as a young girl and always held a soft spot for abused animals and vulnerable children. She was as comfortable in camouflage as she was in cocktail attire, and as bold with her convictions as she was loyal in her friendships.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, T. Ray, and her sister, Diane Dawson Hill. She is survived by her son, T. Ray Phillips IV and his wife Tia; her daughters, Marni Warren and husband Mark, and Kendall Phillips; and her five adored grandchildren: Thomas and Audrey Phillips, Cole Phillips, and Luke and Mary Nell Warren. She also leaves behind many brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends who were all like family.
Brooke lived life boldly, loved deeply, and left the world a little more fun. She will be missed dearly and remembered always because of her life's journey that intertwined with so many.
