Born and raised in Stephens County on October 21, 1927, she lived in the small towns of Comanche and Corum, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of the late David Earl and Lora Mary Van Blair Fox. Around the age of 10, her family moved to Oklahoma City, OK. She graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City. She married the love of her life Arthor LeRoy Townsend June 6, 1948.
Gayle (Teenie) worked in retail sales from the early age of 15, at TG&Y, Streets and Sears Roebuck and Company. She retired from Sears in 1991 with 28 years of service. During this time, she met many wonderful and dear friends.
Gayle was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Arthor LeRoy Townsend. One brother, Glen W. Fox, one sister-in-law Edwyneth K. Fox, and one brother-in-law John H. Calhoun also preceded her in death.
She was a long time member of the Methodist Church in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, OK. For the last several years she has attended and was active at Life Church in Oklahoma City.
Gayle enjoyed watching and cheering on the OU “Boomer Sooners” and the OKC Thunder. Far most important to her was spending time with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family.
Gayle is survived by her sister Betty Calhoun of Tulsa, her two daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie (Key) Martin and husband Larry, Glenda (Birdie) Belvin and husband James; grandchildren Natalee Zinser, Travis Martin, Carrie Robison and husband Jason and Cole Belvin; great grandsons Kamron, Kaden and Dallas Martin, Zachary Bandy, Wyatt Robison, Logan Zinser and great granddaughter Lily Gayle Zinser. Special nieces, nephews and many dear friends also survive her.
Gayle’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Brad Bandy officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
