

Darrell Richard Bennett passed to his heavenly home Friday, April 15 with family at his side. He was 85. Darrell was known by everyone as a kind, generous and caring son, father, grandfather, neighbor, community leader and friend. He will be missed. Darrell was born August 25, 1931 to James Gordon Bennett and Irene Myrtle Bennett in Piedmont, OK where he graduated Piedmont High School in 1949. His family staked and homesteaded an original 160-acre tract of land along the Chisolm Trail that eventually became a part of Piedmont, OK. He graduated Oklahoma A&M with a BS in Agriculture and minor in Chemistry. He was a member of Farmhouse Fraternity. Darrell married the love of his life JoAnn Burford August 14 1959. They became the proud parents of their only child, Linda. Darrell was a lifetime member of the Piedmont United Methodist Church and served many years on the Administrative Board, and served as a delegate for the annual conference of the Oklahoma Methodist Church. Darrell served on the Piedmont City Council from 1981-1985, Board of Directors Rolling Hills Bank, and was a Charter Member and past President of the Piedmont Historical Society. He served 15 years on the Board of Directors for Mid-Oklahoma Cooperative and also served on the National Coop Board. Darrell is remembered as a highly intellectual concrete thinker, sincere and caring man who was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and grandson Landon James Liles. He is survived by wife, JoAnn, daughter Linda and son-in-law Michael Chiaffitelli, D.C., granddaughter Jessica Chiaffitelli, loved ones Bobby and Lacee Kirk and sons Axel and Oakley, Dr. Dale and Donna Kay Hughes, Dow and Dave Hughes and their families, Greg Taylor and family, and many more cousins. Viewing is scheduled from 9 am-8 pm Wednesday, April 20 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with services scheduled 11 am Thursday, April 21 at Piedmont United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will be present at viewing from 6pm to 7:30pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations for the children’s playground fund to the Piedmont First United Methodist Church..
