I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Darrell Bennett. He was a great leader to the community. He was always there when there was a need. He would hire HighSchool young men and teach them about work and also about life. They all looked up to him and respected him. He always had a smile. He will be greatly missed. Prayers go up for JoAnn, Linda and the rest of the family that God will comfort them in their need.

It is sad news that we have lost one our best,Darrell Bennet. He was a great leader and was always there to help those in need. He would hire High School young men and he taught them so much not just about work but life. He always had a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed. Our prayers go out to JoAnn, Linda and his entire family.

Our condolences to JoAnn, Linda and family in the loss of their beloved Darrell. May God bless you all with peace and comfort now and in the times when you feel low.  May He make your good memories of him be lasting and clear.  

Darrell was a good business man in the business of farming, which was deeply rooted in his family line. He was civic minded and very involved in his community and church, always working to help others. He made it a practice to hire farm hands to help him accomplish his work. I happened to be one of the fortunate young men that he hired and mentored. He taught me a lot about life and work and I had some really good times working on the farm with him. He was soft spoken and kind, a lot like his Dad Gordon. I also had the pleasure of knowing and working with Gordon, and of calling him friend. I have many fond memories of Darrell laughing at the crazy things that us young guys would say and do. We built fence, repaired and serviced equipment, doctored and worked cattle, plowed and planted his fields, repaired and maintained terraces, and a multitude of other things. My brother Randy also worked for Darrell. He and JoAnn provided us lunch every day, along with our wage, which was a hot meal in the house at the dinner table if we were working near the house, or a bag lunch if we were busy in the fields. We even caught a burger in town every now and then and Darrell had it covered. He was a good neighbor in the community sense, as well as the Christian sense.  He helped my family on more than one occasion. One year, there was a tornado that damaged homes east of Piedmont.  Darrell sent us over to help clean-up at a friends place. I'm sure Darrell had things just prior to harvest that he needed us to attend to, but was willing to pay his hands to help another in need. I was educated in many ways by his teaching and mentoring. He taught us the right way to do things, and sometimes those just take more time and patience. I recollect a couple of funny stories.  Once when working on a corral on the East Garten place, I got into a red ant pile and did some serious dancing as I shucked my pants right there next to Edmond Road.  Darrell had a big laugh over that. Another time, I was cranking up a round bale with Darrell when something hit me on the inside of the leg. I thought that Darrell was messing with me and looked over my shoulder.  Darrell was nowhere near me, so I bent over and looked between my legs.  I was face to face with the biggest cat-sized rat I'd ever seen and jumped up and took off running. I thought Darrell would never stop laughing. Darrell and JoAnn were always so happy to see me when I was able to visit them long after I'd left home. I'm thankful that I recently had the opportunity to see Darrell. I'll always hold my memories of working with Darrell close to my heart.  He was a good man. The world would be a much better place with more people like Darrell. Back in those days, we communicated by CB when we were working away from the house and each of us had a "handle". So long Hilltopper, thanks for the terrific memories and the lessons you taught me. I'll look forward to meeting you on the other side of the river.

What a nice video. I still hear Darrell coming in from coffee on Saturdays mornings and saying Hi, Laurie! he would always say my name the proper way. Sure have missed cleaning for them both. Such a sweet sweet man. Prayers to the family!

This has been an extremely difficult time for my family since the passing of my father in-law.  I am truly blessed to have him as another father figure in my life.  He was truly the most honest and sincere person I have ever had the chance to know.  I enjoyed listing to him talk and tell stories of his childhood growing up in a farming family.  Farming thousands of acres of land and planting wheat as well as raising many hundreds of head of cattle every year.  He was a steward of the land and farmed and ranched in a way that did not cause destruction of the land but with improvement.  He and his wife JoAnn were proud church goers and attended Piedmont First United Methodist Church from its early beginnings.  Linda and I and our family enjoyed attending church with them as often as we could.  we also enjoyed having lunch with them after church where he would tell us stories of the old days and the older people in the family who were no longer with us.  He was such a smart and intelligent man, almost like a walking encyclopedia.  More importantly was his love for his family and grand children.  He would do anything for his grandson Landon and his granddaughter Jessica without blinking and eye.  His heart was full of love and life and ours is broken and hurting for the loss of such a great man.  I miss you so very much and will miss our times talking and visiting.  I love you dad and miss you dearly.

This is extremely sad news that Darrell has passed. I always viewed him as a gentleman in every sense. He was kind, considerate, intelligent and stayed on top of things. A gracious family man who I admired very much. He will be missed by many. Arita and I offer our condolences to the family and God be with them in this time of grief.
