David graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and went on to become a Certified Public Accountant. In 1972, he moved to Oklahoma, where he built both his professional career and a life filled with love and family. On June 30, 1972, David married the love of his life, Judith Dawson. Together, they shared over five decades of devotion, laughter, and cherished memories. The loving couple also welcomed two amazing children, Nathan and Virginia Ann.
A man of many passions, David loved music of all kinds including Bluegrass, Gospel, Pop, and Classic Rock. A perfect day for him was a Sunday dinner surrounded by his family, sharing stories and laughter. Known for his quick wit and love of practical jokes, David’s humor and warmth touched everyone who knew him. Above all, he adored his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
David taught by example, instilling in those around him the values of respect, steadfastness, discipline, and commitment. He was a man of deep faith and a proud member of St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church. Among his many accomplishments, he was especially proud of earning his second-degree black belt, a true testament to his dedication and perseverance.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Judith Dawson; his children, Nathan Dawson and wife Lorna of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Virginia Ann Heckard and husband Chris of Edmond, Oklahoma; his brothers, James Dawson and wife Elaine of Princeton, West Virginia, and John Mark Dawson and wife Tamara of Piedmont, Oklahoma; and his sisters, Mary Ruth Fowler of Tioga, West Virginia, and Betsy Jeanette Strickland and husband Ellis of Birch River, West Virginia. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Nikki Kaiser, Matthew Heckard, Savannah Willoughby, and Jeremiah Heckard; three nieces; three nephews; and his loyal fur babies, Spike and Chuck.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Gregory Steven Dawson of Grafton, West Virginia; and his sister, Flora Jean Dawson of Grafton, West Virginia; and his brother-in-law, Ralph Fowler of Tioga, West Virginia.
David will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend—and as a man of great faith, humor, and integrity. His legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
