

David D. Hunt, 87, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022, at his home in Oklahoma City after a long bout with cancer. He was born September 14, 1934 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma to Virgil D. Hunt and Arlene E. Hunt. After graduation from the University of Oklahoma, he married Marilyn Elizabeth White on June 5, 1956 and they were together for 56 years until her death in 2012. Thereafter David met Marian M. Stephenson at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and they married on July 11, 2014. David and Marian spent nearly 8 happy years together until her passing on March 7, 2022.
David spent the first half of his professional career owning and operating Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City with his father-in-law, Kenneth R. White. After sale of this family business in 1980, he continued in the employ of Service Corporation International as a cemetery developer, working on design and development projects locally and worldwide. Outside his career, David was active in the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, and through the Chamber he worked toward the establishment of present day Oklahoma City Community College, serving on its first Board of Regents from OCCC’s opening in 1972 until 1986.
David is survived by his eldest son, David D. Hunt II and wife Vicki Hunt of Oklahoma City, his son, James S. Hunt and wife Helen Hunt of Oak Island, North Carolina, and son-in-law Dale G. Reid of Oklahoma City, who was married to David’s beloved daughter Lee Ann Reid, who died in 2021. David is survived by six grandchildren, Brandon Hunt, Courtney Tague, MD, Lance Reid, Austin Reid, Derek Reid, and Melanie Philemon, as well as their spouses and six great-grandchildren among them.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper in Oklahoma City, with a private memorial service for family to be held a the Resthaven Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, 6600 Broadway Extension in Oklahoma City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that David be memorialized via gifts to one of his favorite charitable organizations, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, The Salvation Army, or Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
