David Wesley Huntsman, was born to John and Betty Huntsman on 4/8/54 in Washington, DC. The youngest child of a career military family, David answered the call to duty himself and joined the Marine Corps at the age of 18 and was sent to support the Vietnam offensive. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he courted and proposed (via US Postal service) to Miss Rita Wadley and they were married 26 Jan 1974 in Oklahoma City, OK. Dave called Rita his “mail order bride”. This began a 40+year adventure for the two. During his affiliation with the USMC, they lived in 29 Palms, CA, San Clemente and Oceanside (Camp Pendleton) CA and Oklahoma City, OK (as a recruiter). Upon leaving the military, Dave and Rita returned to Oklahoma where he worked as a diesel mechanic, shop foreman and road breakdown supervisor.
David’s favorite past times included eating, intarsia, riding horses, sports, and movies. Dave also played drums and guitar and would like to be remembered for his love of family, friends and sharing good times camping, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. David’s surviving family members include his wife, Rita Huntsman of Harrah, OK; brother, Johnnie Lee Huntsman and wife Flora of OKC and their children: John Allen Huntsman, OKC, Cheryl Lynn Brooks, Atlanta, TX. Also, his sister, Linda Whittington and husband, Paul of Anacoco, LA and their children: Emily Ivey, Holly Springs, North Carolina and Jennifer Murphy, Pineville, LA. David is predeceased by sister, Susie, aged 32 years, died in 1982, father, John, died in 1988, and mother, Betty, died in 2012.
David passed away on 16 Dec 2014 and will be remembered in a farewell service on 20 Dec 2014, 1100 am to be held at Bethel Christian Center, Choctaw, OK, where he was a member. Internment will be at Arlington Cemetery NE 36/Midwest Blvd, Midwest City, OK.
Rita would like to thank the many family members and friends who supported Dave through his health struggles. She can’t begin to name everyone but wants to give special thanks to Terry and Linda White (Dave’s brother of his heart), and Rita’s brother Randy Wadley as well as Mark and Carol Dwyer for the many hours of care, love and devotion they gave to David these past months. Rita would also like to thank her church family without whom we would have been lost. But mostly, Rita wants everyone to thank our heavenly Father for the many blessings He has given her and David through every trial and challenge. To God be all the glory.
