Diane Lucille Mitchell

Diane Lucille Mitchell, 69, of OKC passed peacefully from this life on August 20, 2018. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral and Cremation Service and a service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Advantage Funeral Chapel at 7720 S. Penn in OKC. Public visitation will be held at the funeral home on August 24, 2018 from 12pm to 8pm.

Diane McMurray was born on May 30, 1949 in Compton, CA to John Robert McMurray Sr. and Rosemary (Adam) McMurray. She attended high school in Gardena, CA. She later moved to Rosamond, CA and began working for USPS in nearby Mojave, CA. In 1973, Diane met Don Mitchell, a fellow postal employee. Diane and Don fell in love and were married on Valentine’s Day 1976. In 1978, they moved to Bakerfield, CA where she spent her time raising their daughter. In 1982, the Mitchell’s relocated to Norman, OK due to Don taking an instructor position at the USPS training center. Diane accepted a position at the Newalla, OK post office where she spent 3 years before retiring in 1997.

Diane was a kind and generous woman who enjoyed making other people smile. She volunteered with the Maguire Community Foundation, INC, a non-profit in Noble, OK that collected housewares for folks who lost their homes and possessions in house fires. She was a talented artist and crafter who enjoyed quilting, drawing, and making family photo albums. She was a gifted writer who penned many poems and authored a cookbook with her many wonderful recipes. She loved to be outdoors fishing, boating, and spending time with her dogs. She was raised in the Catholic Church and her family and her faith were the cornerstones of her life. Diane was a loyal wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a trusted friend and she will certainly be missed by all who knew her.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Joseph McMurray, and a grandson Christopher McMurray. She is survived by her husband and bestfriend of 42 years Don Mitchell; a daughter Laurie McMurray and Juan Castillo of Lancaster, CA; seven grandchildren: Nathaniel McMurray, Nicole McMurray-Sheffield and husband Michael Sheffield, Laurisa McMurray, Andrew Wolfe, Robert Wolfe, John McMurray, and Isabel McMurray; two great grandchildren Riley Cook and Rosemary Sheffield; four brothers: John McMurray and wife Dina, George McMurray and wife Connie, Larry McMurray and wife Diane, and James McMurray and wife Yanni.
