Throughout most of her early years, she lived on the ITIO Jones Lease in the SE Okla. City oil field; in what is today Valley Brook. Joan graduated from Foster HS in 1948. She was married to Guy Richard ‘Dick’ Payne for 51 years until his death in 2004. In the 1950’s & 60’s, she worked as a comptometer operator for several companies; including Humpty Dumpty, SW Bell, and Halliburton. Later, she was a homemaker while living in Guam and Alaska before returning here in 1977. Joan’s life revolved around her home and family; and she especially enjoyed being with her granddaughter, Alyssa. She was also active in church for many years; and was often passing out Christian literature door-to-door until her health prevented it. Joan was an early member of Country Estates Bapt. Church in Midwest City; and later in life attended Harvest Life Church. She will be remembered as a strong-willed and independent person; but always kind and giving to both stranger and friend.
She is survived by her son Marcus and daughter-in-law Angela Payne of Choctaw; and granddaughter Alyssa. She is also survived by sister-in-law Mary Payne of The Village; and brother-in-law Charles Mcleod of Bradenton, FL. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Dick, a brother Homer Jr. who died in infancy, and both parents.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct 4th at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home Northeast Chapel, with burial following at Arlington Memory Gardens. A special note of thanks to Wellington Parke for the care and comfort she received in her final months.
