Don was born to Fred W. Lowmaster and Wanda Grace Lowmaster (Hogan) on November 6, 1939, in Upper Sandusky, OH. He married Reiko Saito on July 8, 1968. They had one daughter, Anneliese. Don is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother Roger Lowmaster. He is survived by his daughter, Anna and son-in-law Alex Tsakiris, siblings Melvin Lowmaster, Lucy Schings, and Linda Jones, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Don proudly served our country in the United Sates Air Force from 1962 until he retired from the military in 1982. He continued a career in government service with the United States Postal Service from 1983 until retirement in 2004. His commitment to service and longevity is a testament to Don’s work ethic. He believed in hard work and was always volunteering for the tasks and shifts that others avoided. He received many commendations, awards, endorsements, and recommendations throughout both of his careers, too numerous to list.
Everyone who knew Don has an amusing story to tell. He told dad jokes before it was trending and had a way of making everyone he met smile and laugh. He was known for his love of jokes, orneriness, and mischievousness. Don enjoyed having fun, but his stubborn streak kept him motivated to provide for his family above all else. Understanding the value of his earned dollars, he tried to teach his daughter, Anna, how many ‘hours’ things cost when she was a child. The lesson she learned was that there were no amount of hours that were too much for him to give for her. He doted on his wife, Reiko, who was afforded the opportunity to be a stay home wife and mother. He showered Anna with love and always took care of her.
Don’s enduring acts of love were not limited to his immediate family. He was naturally charming and consistent to deliver affection. Don never missed an occasion to send a greeting card to friends and family or to help out.
The adage, life is not the same without you, strikes hard in the face of grief. While this is true for all those touched by Don, their lives aren’t going to be the same, but better for the legacy he leaves with them. While no funeral service is currently scheduled, a celebration of life ceremony may be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be sent to the Cure Alzheimers Fund (https://curealz.org/giving/donate/) or a charity of your choice in honor of Don’s memory.
