

Dorothy Fern was born on June 26, 1919, northwest of Eureka, Kansas on a farm homestead along the Fall River. She is the daughter of the late Mary and John Dorsett. She went to beauty school in Wichita, Kansas and worked as a beauty operator in Eureka for one year. She then moved to Howard, Kansas where she continued as a beauty operator. She met Lester in 1938 through good friends in the small town of Howard, Kansas. Dorothy and Lester were married on September 8, 1940, and were married for 56 years. They then moved to Wichita, Kansas after getting married and on April 27, 1946 were blessed with a son, Ronald. Dorothy returned to the workforce in 1960 working for Sears in the Unit Control Department in Oklahoma City. She worked there for 25 years until she retired in 1985. The Jones family became members of May Avenue United Methodist Church in 1962. They were faithful members of this church serving on numerous committees. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lester, son, Ronald, mother and father, sisters Mary and Cyrena, brothers, Roy, Ray and John. She is survived by 2 grandchildren, Lance C. Jones of Denison, Texas, Nikki Douda of Frisco, Texas, 2 great grandchildren, Roni and Rhett Douda, a Daughter-in-law, Mindi Jones of Sherman, Texas, 2 step-grandchildren, Brandon and Brent Camp, and many nieces and nephews. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund at May Avenue United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 3rd at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Services for Dorothy will be held 2:00 p.m., March 4, 2011 at May Avenue United Methodist Church. Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
