Born on 9 December 1923 in Haskell County, America, Earl Junior Spears impacted everyone he met until his death on 30 September 2017. His parents, Francis and Minnie, raised Earl along with his 8 brothers and sisters in and around Stigler, Oklahoma.
Growing up on ‘The Mountain’, he picked up the moniker ‘Uncle Dude’ somewhere along the way due to his fancy hat-wearin’, not to mention his always being clean shaven and sharply dressed.
Earl married Melba Irene Greenmeyer on 8 November 1947 and raised two pretty good boys and some amazing grandkids and even greater great-grandkids.
Growing up, he worked several jobs, farming on Beaver Mountain, working in California with the ‘Plumb Pickers’. After marriage he continued his hard work, variously serving as a mechanic’s assistant, on the railroad, in the oil fields, a truck driver with Steelman and finally ‘retired’ with Dolese after 26 years. Upon said ‘retirement’, he employed numerous grandkids in the lawn business from which he never really retired.
He served the Church as a deacon for 50+ years at Central and Southern Oaks Free Will Baptist Churches.
Never in short supply of Juicy Fruit and/or spearmint gum, he gave to all who were in need. But not only gum, his generosity knew no bounds giving to his children, to his grandchildren, to anyone who came by the house in need of something or other.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Melba; his sons Dennis and Jimmy and their wives; his 8 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and a beloved grandpup; his brother; and too many nieces and nephews and cousins to name.
