Our dearly beloved wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother, Elizabeth Leoma Odom, was joyously welcomed into heaven on Good Friday, April 7, 2023. She passed away from a 4-month battle with pancreatic cancer at home surrounded by her family. She was ready to go home to be with Jesus and we are forever comforted by that knowledge. We will miss her so much but stand firm in our faith that we will all be together again one day.
Elizabeth (Beth) Leoma Odom was the eldest of 3 girls, born on February 13, 1952, in Houston, TX, to Lady Leoma and Charlie David Carter (both of Tehuacana, Texas). Her father’s profession as a Petroleum Engineer took the family worldwide. Beth spoke beautiful fluent French after spending 2nd grade in Algeria, developed a lifelong love of snorkeling in 5th grade in St. Thomas, lived in Anchorage, Oklahoma City and Wichita, with many stops spent working with her grandparents who ran a dry goods/grocery store in Tehuacana, Texas.
After High School graduation, she promptly returned to where she was happiest, Oklahoma, and enrolled at OSU to study library sciences. She wanted to be a librarian, but fate had other plans, and she met and married her husband of 51 years, Paul B. Odom III, raised 2 children and one precious grandchild who carries her name, Elizabeth Lady Odom Davis.
Beth loved the Lord, taught Kindergarten Children’s Church and with her husband, a High School Sunday School Class for more than a decade. Volunteered at OKC Metropolitan Library at Southern Oaks.
She was a member of American Sewing Guild, Central Oklahoma Quilters’ Guild, founding member of Featherweights (seamstresses who sew only on their vintage Singer Featherweight sewing machines when meeting), Women of the South and served as President in 2006/2007 and volunteered countless hours for many organizations.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie David Carter and two sisters.
Beth is survived by her husband, Paul B. Odom III, mother, Lady Leoma Carter, son, David Odom, daughter, Rachel Odom, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Lady Odom Davis, Father-in-law Paul B. Odom Jr., brother-in-laws Brady Odom, Paul David Odom and wife Taylor, their children Paul Benjamin & Millie Elizabeth.
She is deeply loved by all who knew her. There could never be a better wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, or friend. She touched 1,000’s of lives here and worldwide. Beth did not boast.
The family would like to thank her wonderful friends and caregivers at Saint Anthony Cancer Center, MD Anderson, & Oklahoma Palliative and Hospice Care, who were supportive throughout the difficult last few months.
The Celebration of Life Service for Beth Odom will be at 3:30 pm, Friday, April 21, at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 8601 S Pennsylvania, OKC. In Lieu of flowers, Beth requested donations to be made to the Elizabeth L. Odom Scholarship Fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, 405-235-5603 www.occf.org
We Love you, MAMA BETH
