

On Dec. 17, 2014, Eugene “Gene” M. Armstrong II went to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born on Aug 27, 1946. He was a retired Sergeant First Class in the US Army. He served for 22 years and was awarded 2 bronze stars with Oak leaf clusters and V’s for valor while serving in Vietnam from July 1966 to July 1969. He was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge. He served at HQ EUDAC/EUCOM from Aug 1980 to Aug 1983 in Vaighen, West Germany and then at US Army Space Command and with US Space Command at Colorado Springs, CO and HQ NORAD at Cheyenne Mountain, CO as a programmer/analyst until he retired in Dec 1988. His favorite task was creating the first “real time” Santa Tracker System for NORAD. This allows television stations to track and show Santa and his sleigh to the children on Christmas Eve as he travels around the world. Gene attended Princeton Day School, in 1963; he participated in the School Boy Championship Regatta. He then attended Hun School of Princeton and lettered in Varsity Swimming 1964-65 and Varsity Crew in 1965. He became a member of Company B, 12th Regiment of the National Society of Pershing Rifles in December 1965. Gene attended college at Boston College and later graduated from Rider University in 1972. He enjoyed hiking in Germany and Colorado, playing soccer and slow-pitch softball. Most of all he loved being with family and friends (old and new). He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda; his daughter, Heather; granddaughters Kaitlyn (7) and Samantha (23 mo); his sister Ellis “Ellie” Keho and niece Rebecca and her husband Adam and their children Aidan, Logan, Lorelai; niece Gillian and her children Rashawn and Raina and other family and friends. Services to celebrate his life will be 1:30 p. m., Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Bill Eisenhours, 8805 N.E. 23rd St with burial following at Choctaw Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, 20 December 2014, 4 – 6 p.m. with family available. Visitation also, Sunday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Monday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Wounded Warrior Project, DAV of Midwest City, Post 7192, or the American Cancer Society.
