

Born in Denver in 1920, Fern was the third daughter of Ernest and Sarah (Carney) Doolittle. After completing high school, Fern became a registered nurse.
Fern and husband of 67 years, Dr. William D. Maril, moved to Oklahoma City in the late 1940’s, where they raised their family and were members of Quail Creek Country Club and First Unitarian Church. Fern especially enjoyed golf, bridge, and travel with friends and family. Fern was also an avid reader and enjoyed discussing current books with anyone else who loved to read. After Dr. Maril’s death, Fern moved to Wichita, Kansas in 2010 to be with family. There she lived, making new friends who will miss her.
Fern is survived by two sons: Richard Ernest Maril and wife Marta (Wichita), and Steven Robert Maril and wife Cindy (Cincinnati); four grandchildren: Robert Thomas Maril (New York City), Robin Suzanne Maril and wife Nancy Knauer, Zack William Maril (all of Washington, D.C.), and Brooke Samantha Maril (Cincinnati); and one great grandson, Willem Knauer Maril. Fern is also survived by one sister, Leona Wesley of Torrance, California and many nieces and nephews.
Fern was preceded in death by one son, William J. Maril, her husband, Dr. William D. Maril, and two sisters, Frances Hellewell and Marian de’Sha.
Funeral services will be held at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper on Saturday, August 20 at 10:00 a.m. (Viewing at 9 a.m.) A reception will follow, and interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oklahoma Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
