Gene Bailey von Stein, 85, of Oklahoma City was born April 14, 1928 and passed away on June 24, 2013. Gene passed away at home surrounded by his friends. He attended Classen High School in Oklahoma City then continued on to Stanford University where he graduated with honors from Stanford Law School. Although he never practiced law, Gene landed his first job as a financial consultant for Sylvan Goldman, the inventor of the shopping cart. He worked with Mr. Goldman in his shopping cart business called Folding Carrier Corporation and began his successful career as a marketing director. Once the company was sold to Unarco Industries, Gene began a 40 year tenure with Unarco rising to be Vice President of Marketing. With his efforts, combined with a great team of professionals, they grew Unarco into the largest shopping cart manufacturer in the world. After retirement, Gene's passion for marketing turned to mentoring and passing his knowledge on to the new generation of business leaders.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Winifred von Stein, his brother Charles Jr. and sister-in-law Darlene von Stein. Anybody that has ever met Gene will remember his extreme dapper appearance, his grasp of the English language, and his uncanny ability of remembering every detail. These are just some of his remarkable characteristics. The one unique feature that stands above all others was his personal greeting. He made it his signature salutation prior to the fictional character of James Bond. When working a room, he would walk up to a person he never met and say, "Hello, I'm Gene.......Gene von Stein".
Being an avid reader, Gene's favorite place to be when not working was the library. Because of this, in lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the "Friends of the Library" at 300 NE 50, Oklahoma City, OK 73105.
So for the final time, Good bye Gene…..Gene von Stein
