George Warren Chambers II, 86, of Moore passed peacefully from this life on November 23, 2018. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation 7720 S. Penn in OKC and a service celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday November 28 at 2pm at The Hill at 2928 Woodlawn in Moore. Public visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12pm to 8pm with the family greeting fiends Tuesday evening from 6pm to 8pm at the funeral home.
George was born on September 27, 1932 in Newburyport, Massachusetts to George and Hester (Stout) Chambers. He was raised and attended high school in Hobbs, New Mexico. Following school he married Sylvia Sue Ponder and had three beautiful children. He relocated to OKC where he began a 10 yr career working for Capitol Steel. In 1957, George married the love of his life Maudena Ann Chambers. They spent over 5 decades together before her passing in October 2010. George spent the last 5 years of their marriage serving as a dedicated husband and caretaker following a tragic stroke that Maudena suffered in 2005.
George spent 30+ years working in the warehouse at TG&Y. He also accepted a position in the commissary at Tinker Air Force Base. A few years after starting at Tinker a round of federal layoffs made is necessary for George to relocate to Dyess Air Force Base where he served in a similar position in the warehouse. In 1994, George retired. He and Maudena purchased an RV and travel all over the country. Branson, MO was always a favorite destination. He also enjoyed playing cards with his group of friends.
George was an easygoing person who enjoyed spending time with his family. George’s faith was an important part of his life. He was a longtime member of the Grand Blvd Baptist Church where he served for many years as a deacon. George Chambers was a loving husband, a caring father, a proud grandfather, a dedicated follower of Christ, and a loyal friend who will be missed by each person who knew him.
George was preceded in death by his parents; wife Maudena Chambers; three children: Bobby, Rusty, and Georgia Elaine Chambers; grandson Phillip Chambers; three great grandchildren: Carissa Kelm, Michael Ballard, and Phillip Chambers Jr; two sisters: Delores Chambers and Roberta Chambers; a son-in-law Jim Travis; and a great great granddaughter Addycen.
He is survived by a daughter Suzanne Travis; 9 grandchildren: Lisa Kelm, Tammie Farrar, Lisa Macias, Jim Travis Jr, Edward Travis, Diana Cummins, Tim Chambers, Alicia Chambers, and Nathan Chambers. He was also survived by numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved family and friends.
