

George Washington Huffman Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, of Midwest City, Oklahoma, passed away on September 11, 2015 in Oklahoma City. George was born in a log cabin to Lewis Ethan and Goldie Mae Huffman in Carol County, Arkansas. He attended Argentine High school in Kansas City, KS. He met Frances Rose Stanbarger at 17 in Kansas City whereby they soon thereafter married. Following high school he yarded cattle at the Kansas City Stockyards before joining the Marines attached to the 1149th Platoon in 1943 during WW II. After serving his country, George returned to Kansas City and made a career in the cattle business originally working for Dempsey-Rutherford Livestock Co. at the Kansas City Stockyards. Simultaneously he became a well-respected livestock broker in and around the Kansas City area, moved his wife and children just outside KCK to Piper, KS - population 106! There he showed his young family how to work the land and raise animals of all kinds, along with his passion for raising Fox Hounds to hunt fox and coyote. He moved on to becoming part owner of the historic Kansas City Stockyards by forming Wagner, Huffman & Burlington Livestock Company retiring in 1986. George and his beloved wife Frances then moved to Midwest City, OK where he spent much of his semi-retirement years perfecting and showing Cornish Bantams chickens. As in all endeavors he pursued in life, he was well respected by all and developed champion birds that he shared freely with other breeders. George was one of eleven children and is survived by three brothers and two sisters (Levi, Claude, John, Eleanor & Audrey), George is also survived by his five children, Jalene Boyer and her husband Bill Boyer and their family of four children, Shirley and her husband Jim Cunningham and their family of six children, Cathy and her husband Jim and their family of three children, Teresa Huffman and her four children, and George Wayne Huffman and his two children, his grandchildren, Lee Boyer, Bobby Boyer, Marla Barber, Marilyn Weaver, Lisa Cunningham, Keli Cunningham, Pat McKorkendale, Tim Cunningham, James Cunningham, Eric Cunningham, Keith Combs, Kevin Combs, Natalie Combs, David Hoffman, Chris Hoffman, Quentin Hoffman, Justin Hoffman, Bradley Huffman and Zachary Huffman, and his devoted and loving caregiver of the past five years Julie Manharth and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews that are too many to list here, but all loved. George was preceded in death by his loving wife Frances in 1990. Visitation in OKC will be Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Hahn-Cook Funeral Home 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. He will be laid to rest with final burial Saturday September 19, 2015 next to his beloved wife Frances at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 N. 94th, Kansas City, KS 66112.
