Glenda French was born on August 31, 1936, in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, to Edythe McBride. She was raised in Midwest City and attended Midwest City High School, where she was the band majorette. It was there she met the love of her life, Dee, and the two were married in 1956.
While Dee was serving in France with the U.S. Army, Glenda attended junior college. After his first year in the Army, the couple married and moved to France for three years, until Dee completed his tour of duty. Upon coming back to Midwest City, Glenda worked at Kerr-McGee for five years before starting their family. Once their children were in grade school, she joined Dee at French Distributing, serving as corporate comptroller until her retirement.
Glenda was deeply devoted to her church, where she taught Sunday school and shared her musical gifts. She had a passion for gardening, especially roses, which earned her the nickname “Rose.”
Above all, Glenda loved her family. She treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. For 33 years, she and her family traveled to Hawaii annually, creating cherished memories together. She delighted in cooking and hosting gatherings, always making sure everyone’s plate was full, and no one left without a generous slice of pie for dessert. She adored being “GiGi” to her family, a role that brought her endless joy.
Glenda is survived by her husband of 69 years, Dee; her son Tom French and his wife Julie of Edmond; her daughter Kim Stockstill and her husband Jim of Tulsa; grandchildren Andrew French and his wife Chelsea, Kadee Fitzgerald and her husband Ryan, and Luke Stockstill; and great-grandchildren Ford and Tucker French, and Margot Fitzgerald, all of Edmond. She is also survived by her two sisters, Shirley Crider and Margie Merkey.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Companion Hospice and especially Michaela for her loving care and compassion she showed.
