Jacqueline Lillard Wolfe, Jackie, “Grandma”, age 93, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully June 13, 2024. Jackie was born March 27, 1931 in Annapolis, Maryland. She was the only child of Admiral Joseph Snell Lillard and Marie Lillard.
Jackie graduated from high school at Mount Vernon Seminary in Washington, D.C. She then went to Mount Vernon Junior College, the University of Hawaii and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1953 with a B.A. degree and was also a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. While at OU she met the love of her life, Ted B. Wolfe. They married on June 20, 1953 in Washington, D.C. and enjoyed 64 years as husband and wife.
Ted was in the ROTC and graduated with a commission of Second Lieutenant before going into active duty at Fort Belvoir Army Base in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Alexandria, VA. After Ted served in Korea, they moved back to Oklahoma City in January of 1955.
Jackie used to say she went to college to get her “MRS.” degree. She wanted nothing more than to find her husband-to-be, get married, and have a family and a home. The Lord blessed her mightily with three wonderful children, eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. As a young mother, she was a Cub Scout den mother for both of her boys and a Blue Bird leader for her daughter. She also loved all the extra activities they were involved in – dancing, softball, baseball, YMCA football, high school baseball, basketball, tennis, and cheerleading.
Jackie’s family meant everything to her. With no siblings, cousins, aunts or uncles, she felt different from her friends. Since her dad was in the Navy they moved a lot, so there was no place to call home. Her parents divorced when she was nine years old and she lived with her father. World War II came and she lived with her paternal grandparents in Neosho, Missouri. Jackie’s father was a career naval officer graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1924 and achieved the rank of Rear Admiral. She grew up with great love and respect for our American flag. Quite often Jackie would stop at a restaurant, retail store or apartment complex to talk to the manager about the tattered and torn flag outside. She would ask them nicely if they would remove or replace it…They always obliged! Another thing that disturbed her was the way some people sing our national anthem. There is a “correct” way and it is not by showing off one’s own voice. Jackie had a warm spot in her heart for military men and women especially in uniform. She would approach them, shake their hand and thank them for serving our country. She’d add “May God bless you and keep you safe” then visit and go on about her way.
Jackie enjoyed all sports and in her earlier years played a lot of tennis. She was an avid OU fan and she and Ted enjoyed many years of attending football, basketball and softball games. She was always a true supporter of the Naval Academy football team – especially the Army-Navy game, and of course, she went on to be a big fan of the OKC Thunder. Jackie enjoyed working in the flower beds, reading, knitting baby blankets and being a part of her children and grandchildren’s lives. She felt so blessed they all lived in the Oklahoma City area where she could see and talk to them often.
Jackie was a devoted member of Christian Women’s Club where for over 30 years she was a Coordinator for Friendship Bible Coffees (neighborhood Bible studies). It was there she gave her life to Jesus Christ and wanted so much for others to meet her Lord and Savior through these Bible studies. She loved her church, Crossings Community Church, and enjoyed so much of its many volunteer needs. Her greatest love was her family, she is survived by her son James M. Wolfe, his wife Leslie, their son Chad, and their daughters Cianne and Cristen, her son William J. Wolfe, his wife Amy, their daughters Allyson and Sarah and their son Travis, her daughter Diane Wolfe Sanger, her husband Tod, their daughter Brittany and their son Trent. Great Grandchildren from the James Wolfe family, Hannah, Ben, Caroline, Sutton, Tatum, Stephen, Nolan and Jackson. Great Grandchildren from the William Wolfe Family, Walker and Graham. Great Grandchild, Emory from the Diane Sanger family.
