

James L. “Jim” Liston, passed away March 16, 2012, at the age of 86 from complications following emergency hip surgery. He was born on March 2, 1926, to Flournoy B. and Effie M. Liston, in Bristow, Oklahoma. He graduated from Coweta High School in 1944 where he played basketball and was known as “High Point Liston”. Soon after graduation he began to use his carpentry skills and moved to Oklahoma City, OK to work as a carpenter. On August 19, 1950 he married Betty Lee Taylor. Together they started Liston Construction Company, building beautiful family homes. After having two daughters, he moved his family to Lawton, OK where he continued to run Liston Construction Company with his wife Betty. Together they built homes and developed several housing additions over the next 40 years. He worked for the City of Lawton as a building inspector for 7 years during this time period. He was a member of the Oklahoma Home Builders Association and served as a board member. In the building circle he became known as “Gentleman Jim”. Jim loved his family and his church where he served as a deacon and helped with construction projects and maintenance. He loved country/western and gospel music. He had a passion for snow skiing and loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter Jamie and her husband Russell Ring; granddaughter Rachel Ring; granddaughter Riley and her husband Christopher Lackey; granddaughter Robbin, her husband Scott Dunbar and their children Kennedy and John Dunbar; daughter Carole Ann Liston; grandson Robert Fritts, his wife Jamie, and their daughter Emma Fritts; granddaughter Amanda, her husband Craig Murdock and their children Deanna Morton, James Best and Brycen Murdock; Twin sisters Jo Ann Harris and Shirley Ann Posey; and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Flournoy and Effie Liston; brothers Fred Liston and Floyd Liston and sister Helen Cox. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 19, 2012. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. March 21, 2012 at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162 following a committal service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to the American Diabetes Foundation or the foundation of your choice.
