Jason Hague Matheson, aged 46 of Edmond Oklahoma, passed away on October 18, 2025. Born June 24, 1979, in Oklahoma City to Janice Kennedy and Richard Matheson, he grew up in Yukon, Oklahoma and graduated from Yukon High School in 1997. On January 23, 1999, Jason celebrated the birth of his first child, Emilie J. Matheson. He continued his education at Oklahoma City Community College, where he earned an associate degree.
Jason was known for being a dedicated worker and natural leader. In 2000, he took a pivotal step by joining the Department of Public Safety, starting as a communications officer with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. His commitment led him quickly through the ranks up to captain, culminating in his promotion in 2021, to become the youngest Major & Director for the Communications Division for Oklahoma Highway Patrol. In 2023, he began laying the foundation for what would become his legacy. The Child Abduction Response Team for Oklahoma otherwise known as C.A.R.T., was launched in 2024. At the request of the Commissioner, Jason retired from the Communications Division to lead C.A.R.T. for the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security. Under his guidance, Jason and his team have successfully recovered and reunited 128 children with their families. After nearly 25 years of service, he was honored with a lifetime achievement award—a career highlight that was very special to him.
In his personal life, Jason was a loving husband, meeting Amanda Jenkins, the love of his life, in August 2003. They were happily married for almost 16 years, tying the knot on December 12, 2009, in Oklahoma City. Together, Jason and Mandy were blessed to have two cherished children: Jackson Wayne, 14, and Sara Beth, 11. Family was always Jason’s priority, and he was a devoted father whose world revolved around them. Every choice he made was for his family.
Jason was also a loyal and valued friend. His endless support, loyalty, and delight in dark humor endeared him to many. Friendships that began in middle school remained strong through adulthood and his career at OHP, supporting each other through life’s many milestones—from births and graduations to vacations and losses. Mandy and the children are deeply grateful for this enduring support.
A passionate sports fan, Jason loved watching games; his favorites included the OSU Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, OKC Thunder, Tottenham Spurs, and his beloved New York Mets. A travel enthusiast, he shared many memorable journeys with Mandy, especially to Maui, where they honeymooned and often returned. Swimming was another joy for Jason—he could rarely be coaxed out of the water. Music was close to his heart; Bob Seger was his particular favorite, reflecting Jason’s old soul, but he also appreciated other classics like Haggard, Jones, and Stoney. Annual concerts with Mandy were treasured, with their last being the Red Dirt Reunion in Stillwater earlier this year.
During his two-year battle, Jason inspired all those around him with his love for family, dedication to the patrol, and unwavering friendship. God has healed Jason as he is now in heaven and no longer in pain. For Jackson and Sara, their daddy will forever live in their hearts and be watching over them. For Mandy, the biggest gift he gave were those babies and his whole heart and soul. She will never be the same without him but knows he holds her close each day.
Jason is survived by his wife Mandy, son Jackson, and daughter Sara of Edmond and daughter Emilie of Oklahoma City; his mother Janice Hamilton, grandfather Lee Kennedy, and Aunt Janice Hunter of Oklahoma City; his mother-in-law Deena Jenkins of Edmond, and brother-in-law Jeff Jenkins and wife Amanda of Kansas City. He will also be deeply missed by his two “brothers for life”, Glen McIntyre and wife Loni of Yukon and Tim Wilson and wife Leslie of Norman, and special friend Trish Stanbro and husband J.B. Of Guthrie, Oklahoma.
A visitation will be held at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper, located at 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK, 73116, on October 26, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
The funeral service will take place at Henderson Hills Baptist Church, 1200 East I-35 Frontage Road, Edmond, OK, 73034, on October 27, 2025, starting at 1:00 pm.
The committal service will be conducted at Memorial Park Cemetery, 13400 N Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK, 73131, immediately following the funeral service.
