December 31, 2024, Jimmie Lewis Orr met our heavenly Father. Jimmie was born December 9, 1942 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Mavis Mae Orr and James Elvin Orr. Growing up, Jimmie was an energy-filled rambunctious little boy. He attended primary school in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1961. Upon graduation, he felt the calling to service in our United States Air Force. Half of his time serving, he was deployed overseas in Okinawa, Japan.
While abroad, he studied the language of Japanese and took some mathematic courses. He was promoted to Airman First Class and was awarded “Serviceman of the Month” among other accolades. In 1965, He was honorably discharged and sought a career at Tinker Air Force Base.
In February, 1966, while on TDY to Pennsylvania, he met the love of his life, Ethel Fair. Later that year, December 10, Jimmie and Ethel signed a covenant of marriage at Soldier Creek Baptist Church in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Shortly after, Jimmie purchased land in Choctaw, Oklahoma to build their future home and family.
In 1967, Jimmie took an opportunity for employment at FAA as an electronic technician. He prospered greatly in his roles achieving lead and supervisory positions before retiring with 32 years of military and civilian service.
In 1972 and 1975, God blessed Jimmie and Ethel with a precious baby boy, followed by a darling baby girl, Randy and Susan Orr. Jimmie and Ethel had a Christ-centered 58-year marriage. Jimmie was highly intentional in modeling Hebrews 10:25 “not neglecting to meet together” for the purpose of gathering with like-minded people to encourage them to cling to their hope in Christ and spur one another on to love and good deeds.
In addition to loving God and loving others, Jimmie had a passion for classic cars. Upon retirement, he and his son spent many afternoons restoring the 1960’s to 1970’s classics. His all-time favorite was he and Ethel’s date night car, a 1966 Fairlane GT convertible.
In 1997, Jimmie and Ethel welcomed their first grandson, later followed by 5 granddaughters and another grandson. He was the best Pappaw! Jimmie’s light will continue to shine brightly for the Lord and for all who love him.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his mother, Mavis Mae Orr, his father James Elvin Orr, his sisters Debbie Lynn Valouch and Shirley Meininger, and his beloved grandson Layton Lewis Orr. He will be remembered by his wife Ethel Romaine Orr of Choctaw, his son Randy Orr and wife Kristina Orr of Harrah, Ok, his daughter Susan Louise Hickman and husband Clint Hickman of Yukon, Ok, and numerous beloved grandchildren.
