John Louis Sowdal passed gently away Thursday, December 30th, 2010 at 7:41 pm in the presence of his family. John was born August 31, 1927 in Chicago Illinois. He suffered through the Great Depression and the war years, during which he served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He blossomed in the late forties as a husband to Birdie L. Sowdal, his wife of 70 years, who preceded him in death April 10th of this year. Father of two sons Ronald and Michael Father-in Law to Linda and Elizabeth. Grand-Father of six, Anne Bowes, John Sowdal, Katrina Swihart, Sarah Kassis, David Kassis and Andrew Sowdal, Great-Grand-Father to Jacob Bowes, Melody Sowdal and Norah Swihart. Well known as ''GRAMPA-JOHN'' he held court for all his friends and neighbors, overseeing the growth of the neighborhood children as well as his own. John worked hard all his life well into the 1990's and retired at last to enjoy his remaining time with us. He was an avid sportsman, master of his trades and wise beyond his years. He will be greatly missed.
