He was raised in Stinnett, TX, then he moved back to Oklahoma, eventually ending up at Valiant High School in Valiant, OK for his senior year. Johnny was a talented athlete who excelled at football and boxing. Johnny had success in several boxing matches, and he was soon boxing with the likes of World Champ Donald Curry. He also was asked to compete in the Golden Gloves Boxing organization.
In 1981, in Edmond, Johnny met the love of his life, Brenda McGruder, and a year later they were married. He later began working for the Bethany Water Treatment Plant. Johnny later worked in the grocery and landscaping trades after attending a trade school for electronics. He worked for several years as a carpenter in Edmond, OK and helped build Oak Tree Addition and many of the houses as the neighborhood developed. Johnny was an ornery and independent man who enjoyed fishing, hunting, fixing just about anything, and showing his beloved American Pitbull Terriers. He was a member of the NRA, Vocational Industrial Club of America, and the 89er’s Dog Club. Johnny had a big heart and enjoyed serving and bringing joy to others by volunteering for the Red Andrews Christmas Party. The two things that he was most passionate about were his faith and his family. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of OKC and also the Refuge Fellowship Church ,where he also enjoyed being able to serve some of the city’s struggling and forgotten about families. He was an animal lover who enjoyed spending time with his dogs, his cat “Shadow” or feeding the deer that made their way onto his property. Johnny was also a dedicated family man who was never happier than when he was with his grandkids John “Sir Walter” Warrick and his sister Chevelle “Hot Rod” Warrick.
Johnny Wade Warrick was a loving husband, a caring father, a proud grandpa, and a trusted friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He packed a lot of wonderful memories into his short 55 years, and he will live on through the lives of wife, kids, and grandkids.
