Joseph Eugene Evans Sr.

Joseph Eugene Evans, Sr., 57, went home to be with his Lord September 26, 2015. He was born on October 16, 1957 in Norfolk, Virginia to Rollins and Dora (Hawkins) Evans the only child of the union. From an early age it was apparent he was an extremely gifted and talent musician, from his attendance at Lake Taylor High School, VA where he exceled in music composition, arrangement, and performance, and went on to attended Shaw University for Music Education, on full musical scholarship where he became a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Drum Major of the Marching Band and graduated Summa Cum Laude in only three years. An accomplished performer of a multitude of instrument, Master Oboist and Pianist, he obtained his masters degree from Tennessee State University, and went on to Direct and teach in University Bands throughout the south, and was a Composer of a vast body of musical work. He also made a profound impact in the prophetic realm in church ministry work throughout the Oklahoma City area, in addition to becoming a Sr. Data Base Administrator. He was well known and loved by all who knew him in Music, Ministry, and Technology across the country.

Joe Evans was preceded in death by both parents and leaves to carry on his legacy: his loving wife of 34 years Sherri Evans, Sr.; Son, Joseph Evans, Jr. and wife Candace, Daughter, Sherri Evans, Jr.; loving in laws, Fay Stewart, Kay Stewart, and Phillip Jones; nephew, Eric Jones and wife Dee and their daughter, Audrey; Cousin Yolanda Evans and family and a multitude of loving relatives; the Jesus Church Ministry family; Prof Edward Graves and a multitude of musicians across the country.

Celebration of his life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3, at Hahn-Cook/ Street & Draper Funeral Directors, 6600 Broadway Ext. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in Trice Hill Cemetery.

Light refreshments and fellowship will be one hour prior to service. Viewing will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00p.m., Friday, October 2, at the funeral home.
