Judith Ann “Judy” (Anderson) Brown, 78, heard him whisper “peace be thine” and slipped free of her earthbound body on February 10. Judy blossomed to life on April 27, 1947, in McAlester, Oklahoma to Ida V. and Jeff Anderson, she was the first in her family to be born in a hospital. Judy’s family immediately recognized and adored her loving spirit, generous heart and lighthearted sense of humor. In 1965, Judy graduated from Louverture Senior High School. At her beloved Louverture she excelled in basketball and was selected as the football team’s Homecoming Queen.
In the early 70’s, Judy discovered her purpose, helping others while working as an aid at General-West Hospital. Having a sweet spirit made it easy for her to connect with others, touching the hearts of those she came in contact with. She could weave a story that made one feel part of the action. Judy enjoyed listening to music, dancing, playing cards, traveling, watching her favorite basketball player Steph Curry, classic TV, surfing the internet and collecting beautiful jewelry and shoes.
Judy fell in love and married staff-sergeant Glenn Brown in 1975. They moved their family to the west and east coasts. After serving 20 years in the Marine Corps, Glenn and Judy decided to move back to McAlester to raise their family. In 1989 Judy started working with KI BOIS Community Action as a Habilitation Training Specialist. She moved to Supported Living as a HTS then to the supported Employment Program as a job coach and in 1998 was promoted to Supported Employment Supervisor. After 16 years of dedicated service, she retired in 2005.
Inside our hearts you will find a special place reserved for you and you alone. Judy will be remembered for her kindness to others, and love for family. Her legacy lives on in her daughter Ava LaShawn of Oklahoma City and grandson Michael-Julian of Brooklyn, N.Y., her son Saadiq (Paul Eugene) and wife Juangjan of Oklahoma City, grandson Cory, grandson Darius, granddaughter LeShauna, great-grandson Eessa of OKC and son Jacob Kareem of McAlester, OK.
Judy leaves to cherish her memory of her brothers Robert (Jokey) of Tulsa, OK, Alfred (Mike) and Mae of California, Daquan (Terry) of California, her sister Barbara (Bobby) and Reuben Boxley of Tulsa and her sister Rosamund (Rose) and Odel Brown and too many nieces, nephews and cousins to name.
Judy has joined in paradise with her mother Ida, father Jeff, brothers Milton, Chester James, Roy Glen, Paul David and her husband of 46 years Glenn.
A religious ceremony will be held at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper, located at 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK, 73116-1298, United States. The service is scheduled for February 26, 2026, starting at 8:45 a.m.
