A loving mother with a complicated life full of her own struggles and triumphs. She loved reading her bible, she loved spending time in prayer. She leant an ear, kind words, and often an overabundance of the words “I Love You”. Whether it was a phone call that turned into multiple return calls just to hear us say those words back to her, she stayed in contact with her children as they grew up and started their own lives. Our words were not always kind, misunderstandings and resentment created gaps between us over the years. Through ups and downs, there was always love in abundance even when it felt like our relationship was fragile. There were periods of silence, secrets, and burdens that neither of us shared. Unspoken apologies throughout the years that became the focus of her children’s individual time with mom in her final moments. Beneath everything a stubborn love persisted and that was never forgotten.
Amidst all the chaos, there were many great moments with her. When we were sick, Mom was there to care for us and when we were angry, she had immeasurable patience with us. With little support, few resources, and raising 5 kids at once, what she was able to do to provide little moments of happiness for all of us will stay with us forever. An endearing appreciation shines through and will remain for those shared moments. Our complicated relationship leaves behind a legacy that will carry with us all; a mosaic of emotions. Her flaws are etched into our souls, and we will carry them with both heartache and gratitude.
As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember that love can be very complicated. It is indescribable in ways, intricately difficult yet beautifully flawed. This obituary is a reminder that we honor not just the pain but the resilience that defined our bond. A fighter to the last breath, surrounded by all her children in her final moments bringing us all back together.
May Mom rest in peace, knowing that our complicated love was worth every tear, every moment of anger, and every smile that was shared between us.
