Dr. Letitia (Tisha) Marie Johnston passed away October 31, 2021. Tisha was a scholar, educator and inspiration to her colleagues, students, and friends. Her major areas of study were the humanities, philosophy, and theology. Born in Oklahoma City, Tisha attended Classen High School. She earned her baccalaureate degree at the University of Oklahoma, her Master of Arts and Doctorate of Philosophy at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and an additional Masters of Princeton Theological Seminary. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Tisha shared her vast knowledge and educational experience with her students and colleagues at Rose State College for 28 years. She taught not only students in her classes, but also her colleagues, many of whom will report how she inspired and supported their educational and personal goals. Any discussion with Tisha was lively and filled with her knowledge, classic wit, and humor. Her search for knowledge continued throughout her lifetime.
Her family was small--her mother and father, William and Violet Raulston Johnston, both of whom predeceased her, but her friendships were many. In addition to her colleagues at Rose State College, close personal friends include Carol Cies, her childhood friend; Kate Price, her college roommate; Audrey Streetman, a fellow member at Westminster Presbyterian Church; Ronda Trotter, her devoted caretaker and friend, as well as all her friends at Epworth Villa. All speak of their enduring, wonderful friendships with Tisha.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8701 N.W. Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK. A memorial service celebrating Tisha’s life will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., at the Brill Chapel at Epworth Villa, 14901 N. Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City, OK.
