

Marilyn Sue Chappell Oden, better known as “Susie” or “Granny” passed away on September 9, 2024, in Yukon, Oklahoma. Susie was born on November 12, 1943, in Oklahoma City to Mary Gann Chappell and Loyal Edward Chappell, Sr.
In Susie’s formative years she loved to watch her father work on cars and she loved to race cars, too.
A graduate of Capitol Hill High School, Susie played many sports including softball, basketball, and was even a ping-pong state champion.
She married Mancil DeWayne Oden on 12-1-1961. Theirs was the most incredible relationship. Through difficult times and great times, “Do” or “Butterball” as she called him, was the love of her life. Until Mancil’s retirement, Susie was a vigilant pastor’s wife for the better part of her life. At the time of her passing, they were members of Heritage Fellowship Church in Edmond.
Susie was a talented interior designer early in her career then went to work for Edmond Equipment as an office manager which is where she retired.
She loved cooking and sharing her recipes with friends and family. She loved to laugh and her laugh was loud and contagious.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, sister Marcheta Chappell Kelly, brother Loyal Edward Chappell Jr, niece Mindy Kelly, daughters Denise Oden and Jennifer Oden Garcia, great-grandchild Cory Doyle and brothers-in-law Maurice and Larry Oden.
She is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, DeWayne Oden; son Russell and his wife Charlene Oden; granddaughter Christina Oden and husband Robert Beaubouef, granddaughter Kimberly and husband Brandon Horton, grandson Stephen and wife Karla Garcia, grandson Kenneth McDonald and wife Lisa, granddaughter Shelley McDonald, grandson Michael McDonald and wife Heather; 14 great-grandchildren: Noah and Nick Hanley, Ava and Emma Beaubouef, Baylin, Larime, Kade, and Ryker Horton, Kailani Garcia, Shelbi Douglas and husband Mitchell, Danielle Stiffler and husband Daniel, Samantha Doyle and husband Colton, Johnathan Doyle, Austin McDonald; and 6 great-great-grandchildren: MaryJayne Doyle, Beckett, Finnley and Bridger Douglas, Isaiah and Jacob Stiffler, as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of Susie’s life will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 16th at Heritage Fellowship Church, Edmond, OK.
A celebration of life for Marilyn will be held Monday, September 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Fellowship Church, 329 West Edmond Road, Edmond, Oklahoma 73003.
