Matthew was born on July 12, 1984 to Larry and Diana (Garvin). He attended School in Moore and graduated from Westmoore High School with the class of 2003.
From the time of Graduation and until his trip home to be with the Lord, Matt worked at several places. He was a pipe inspector, stocker, worked maintenance and as a custodian. Whatever job Matt had, he did it to the best of his ability. He made friends easily wherever he worked and always left a positive impression upon people he was around. Matt’s great sense of humor made him easy to love and he always had witty comebacks to break the ice.
His last place of employment was with the Edmond Public Schools at Ida Freeman Elementary as a custodian. However, for Matt that was not his only purpose for being there. He was there to make sure that the children were taken care of. Whether that meant to have clean and healthy environment, to making sure the children were able to have lunch. For example, when he found out that a child did not have lunch money he automatically gave money.
When Matt was not working, he and Rebecca enjoyed being outside. God could not have brought a better help mate into Matt's life. They both loved fishing, hiking, camping and shooting guns. If they were not outside then they were spending time with family. They played games together, made Christmas cookies together, laughed together and enjoyed eating together. He had a keen appetite for fine food. He loved a good ribeye, mashed potatoes, starburst jelly beans, and of course, cold hotdogs. Matt also enjoyed watching movies; any movie with John Wayne or Patrick Swayze would be at the top of his list. However he was learning to like the classic movies of 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, Ma and Pa Kettle and many more.
Matthew loved to talk to people and he was generous and helpful, even when it was inconvenience. He was always observant and did his best at anticipating people’s needs before the need arose. He was truly a selfless man who loved the opportunity to serve people and he will be missed by all those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Adam West; best friend, Nathan Scott; grandma, Nelleta West and grandpa, Thomas Mowers.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Kelly) West; parents, Larry and Diana (Garvin) West; brother, Andrew West and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Condolences may be sent to the family via and online guestbook at Advantageokc.com.
