Mavis Claire Phillip Young, 85, lifelong resident of Oklahoma, passed away January 26, 2013. Mavis was born December 18, 1927, in McAlester, OK, to Ghaska Wilkes and Alvin Rogers. She graduated from Central High School in Muskogee. Mavis was a devoted member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church where she assisted with the Meals on Wheels program for many years. She was married on September 3, 1949, to Thomas Clark Phillip and they had two children. Mavis was preceded in death by her sister, Emma Lou Welch of Hampton, VA, and her brother Joe W. Anderson of Hugo, OK and a nephew Joe Anderson also of Hugo, OK. She is survived by her children Thomas Clark Phillip and his wife Kay of Providence, RI and Rebecca Phillips and husband Doug of Plano, TX; grandchildren Lyric Phillips of Houston, TX and Shake Phillips of Costa Mesa, CA; niece Frances Nelson and husband and Gil of Sherman, TX and niece Robin M. Welch of Hampton, VA. A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
