

Melba attended Perkins Public School. After graduating from Perkins High School, she enrolled at Oklahoma State University and graduated with a bachelors’ degree in secretarial administration in 1952. She was offered a position with Trans American Petroleum in Tulsa, OK. After two years, Trans American transferred their offices to Oklahoma City. Melba relocated with the company. She met her future husband, James Dixon, in late 1956. He was in the Air Force and stationed at Altus Air Force Base. They were married on 17 August 1957. James’ air force wing was transferred to Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX. Melba terminated her employment with Trans American and moved with James to Abilene. They resided in Abilene until March 1958 at which time James was discharged from the Air Force. They relocated to Perkins, OK while James looked for employment.
In the spring, she gave birth to their son, James M. Dixon. Her new son was her pride and joy. Later that summer they moved to Ponca City, OK as James had obtained a job as a draftsmen. Melba had obtained employment with Continental Oil Co. during this time and she continued working until 1960 when James started employment at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City. She terminated her job at Ponca City and the family moved to Midwest City, where they resided for approximately 50 years. During this time, their son attended Oklahoma State University where he graduated. Melba was elated that he graduated from the same college that she did. Melba continued her role as a homemaker during this entire time. She is survived by her husband, James; son Jim and wife LaQuita; grandsons, Matthew, Landon, and Devin; and sisters, Vivian Jackson and Lillian Walton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 6th, 2013 at 10:00am at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel with interment to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens.
